Medical Laboratory Technician
Aim
Medical laboratory technologists are usually in clinical laboratories. Though they work behind the scenes, they play very important role in the health sector. This programme aims to train Medical Laboratory Technologists to perform and aid in the efficient processing, analysis, analysis, interpretation and reporting of laboratory test results to support clinical technical services in the provision of holistic healthcare.
Objectives
The institution should describe what the programme is intended to achieve.
The programme is designed to provide medical laboratory training to students with specific aims to:
1. Ensure high quality training
2. Perform tests with a high level of consistent reliability
3. Ensure adherence to quality control systems
4. Develop skills that will ensure proper supervision of subordinate laboratory staff and effective communication with colleague health care providers, patients and the general public
5. Ensure the performance of basic clinical laboratory investigations, to
communicate results and manage resources under minimum supervision in a
timely manner.
6. Apply knowledge and skills in the area of research
These objectives are to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge for a successful career in laboratory technology.
